Question - Are Ferrets Legal in California

IS is legal in California to own a Ferret?  I always thought it would make a
great pet.  If it is, how does one go about getting one?
 
[Apparently it is not.  However, I have seen ferrets on TV shows shot in
LA, and apparently Vets can treat ferrets as outpatients without having
to report them]
