This is in reply to Mike, who is somewhat new to furries and said he was
"discouraged" after meeting some badly behaved Ferrets recently on LI.

Mike;
I thought you should know of two pet stores in Huntington ( since
you live on the Island I'm sure you're familiar w/ where Huntington is) that
I regularly stop into. Both usually have a good selection of Ferrets and both
are clean and well maintained.
One is in Huntington Village on NY Ave. just about next door to CVS, and
the other is on Jericho TPKE. Just a little past Route 110 on the left if
your'e going
east, across from the Huntington Townhouse.

As for your discouragement w/ Otto and the kits you encountered; Otto may
have been mistreated or simply never handled enough to be
properly acclimated to humans. He should NOT be considered as the norm
in any event. As for the kits, you must realize that they are babies and that
they interact w/ the surrounding world via there mouths (just as dogs and to
a lesser extent cats do). The nipping is normal and you will get a few
scratches and pinpricks till they are a bit older. They seem to especially
nip
a lot if they are used to being with lots of siblings. DON'T make the
mistake of believing, as I believe you did say, that ferrets are inherently
viscious. NOTHING could be farther from the truth. They aren't any more
viscious then dogs (or humans for that matter!).
Hope this helps....
