Laryssa went into a lot of the energy and pollution costs of computers
in the "What is green?" evaluation so i won't duplicate her work.

On the complex avatar using about 300 watts:
Second Line publishes what servers they use, the types of servers
(which gives the energy draw) and how many are on-line w them at any
time so it is simple division.

Oh, and they weren't using their heat from the machines to heat their
buildings but instead were air conditioning the room, so that added to
it when the calculation was done about a year ago.

The human body: 100 watts is about 2,500 k-calories (i.e. Calories)
burned per day.

*****Anyway, the bottom line is that is unclear and varies among
households and communities whether a print magazine or an on-line
one is more "green".*****

Again, the white roofs were for some areas with too much heat, not too
little -- typo fromthinging ahead to the heat exchanger portion...

The solar cells for lighting figure also contains the amount lost due
to bulbs. (No bulbs for the time that reflected sunlight lights a
room.)

Best energy advice: LET THINGS BE THEMSELVES:
Let heat ne heat and use heat exchangers
Let light be light and use reflected light fromoutside

Other best advice that is an illustration of why physicists who consult
on energy conservation are often the best route to efficiency and
savings:
remember to not forget to think in terms of energy instead of power
for comparisons.
