Shirley, the various polecats are crepuscular as well as multiple close
but not as close relatives, so the ***ancestry*** of ferrets is taken
to have been crepuscular (dawn and dusk primary times of activity).
Rather than look under ferret in your searches check the behavior and
ecology papers on polecats.
