I would like to add a littel to the discussion about the ferret with
mastitis. The is a potentially life threating infection for your ferret. I
agree with the 10mg -20mg/lb. twice daily dossage of amoxi, but would like to
add that this may not be enough! Sometimes we have to add another antibiotic
(aminoglycoside) or switch to something stronger (and safer like baytril).
This along with supportive care (SQ fluids, warm compresses, lots of TLC)
gives her the best chance but still may not be enough! These coliform
infections can be hard to get under contol and will sometimes require
surgical removal of the gland. Please remember that these infections can be
serious and require close veterinary follow up.
