What Rick is referring to as FAD is what has been called "Shelter Shock"
for years here in the east. Rick touched a lot of nerves for appearing
callous in how he discussed the human side. He doesn't want to talk about
the human aspect which is what he means when he says he doesn't care. We
hope that is just perhaps a weak choice of wording.

Ferrets sometimes do indeed suffer and even die from what appears to be
nothing more than a psychological shock at enterring a shelter.

In our opinion though, some of it is the feeling of abandonment. Some of
it is the shock at going from the low ferret population homes to the
higher population shelters.
