However unlikely, there are confirmed cases of ferrets with rabies.  I have
about 20 pages of various reports from one confirmed case here in Florida
two summers ago.
 
I would love to see their site and their take on the subject, but you didn't
mention the URL.  I suppose it will be relatively easy to find.
