pineapple juice for hairballs

When I got my tongue peirced, the peircer told me one of the best things to
do in the first few days it to suck on peices of fresh pineapple, because
the pineapple juice is really good to reduce swelling.
 
I'm not too sure exactly what happens when on gets a blockage, but perhaps
the pineapple juice helps in that way?
