I have a black female chow that is 7 years old. She's a very sweet, mild
mannered dog. I also have an Akita and a Blue Heeler. However, I don't
allow the dogs around the ferrets when the ferrets are out of their cage
for playtime. I either put the dogs outside or they are in my bedroom
behind closed doors. I don't think any of the dogs would hurt the
ferrets intentionally, but you never know. All it takes is one snap
of their big jaws on a little ferret body for disaster to happen. The
ferrets could easily be stepped on as well.

None of the dogs have ever shown any aggression toward the ferrets and
they are allowed around their cage, but I'd rather err on the side of
caution and keep the dogs away from the ferrets when they are out of
their cage.
