On one hand I can relate to that but on the other, no way.  My Loki (RB
4/18/97) could wander around forever, even if you pointed her in the
direction of home.  Oh sure, if she was on the porch, she knew the door was
the way in, but she never seemed to be in any hurry to get back....maybe
this is what lead her to wander several blocks away, across two busy streets
when she ran away one summer.  Of course, she just went on our normal walk
routine, plus a little further!
 
Now my Fidget absolutely dashes to the door.  No matter which house we are
at...his home, my Dad's house, my SO's parents' house, my grandparents'
house.  This little fellow knows exactly where he came out (and in some
cases, other ways to get back in) and as soon as he hears/smells something
he doesn't like, it's off to the races!  You should see the looks I get as
I try to keep up with him...<G>
