Hi Tracy!
 
"Dook" is the sound ferrets make when they're happy and excited.  It
usually accompanies their happy dance.  To me, it sounds a little like a
cross between a turkey gobble and chicken cluck!  It's not a loud sound,
it's kind of muffled in their throat, but you can hear it if you're near
them.
 
Have you ever seen the happy dance/war dance/weasel dance?  It's the cutest
thing!  When ferrets are happy, they'll literally bounce around and charge
into things, waving their head around and dooking.  If I didn't know it
meant they were having fun, I might think they were agitated or having an
attack of some sort!
 
Another cute thing is when they wag their tail.  I've only seen them do it
when they're inside a tube or tunnel of some sort, or a rolled up carpet.
If I cover the end they're coming out of with my hand, I'll hear their tail
thumping against the tube, carpet, etc.  This means they're playing with
you and they understand that you're playing a game with them - peek-a-boo!
To make sure they were wagging their tail, I put one of them in a short
tube and covered one end.  I saw her tail wagging away, sticking out the
other end!
 
I don't think your ferrets are unusual if you don't hear them dook or see
them dance.  I have two, and Sam dooks and dances all the time, and Pichu
dances a little bit, and hardly ever dooks.  They are both playful though.
I know they're both happy and having fun, so that's the important part!
