We've used rabbit feed as litter based on the recommendation of a breeder
wegot 5 of our ferrets from.
 
It doesn't break up like wood stove pellets and if you don't keep it
changed it can get moldy.
 
Cost is reasonable
 
I don't like the smell and prefer wood stove pellets
