Dear FML readers:

I wanted to let you all know that we have a birth announcement (well sort
of). We have a new baby ferret. He is a sheltie coloured, neutered CDC
ferret. You all know we lost Ferris to insulinoma on Saturday, Sept. 26
and it really was a terrible blow to our household. We fought the good
fight to keep Ferris with us and really thought we could outwit Mother
Nature!!! It was a stunning blow to lose him but the worst was that we had
to return to the cottage to his favorite place and we had to face putting
away all his toys and blankets that had been left there for his return. I
felt bad for my son because Ferris was his true love. As a parent you try
to protect your children from the things in life that cause them pain. It
is an impossible task.

Bill went to a large local mall (Yorkdale) the week following Ferris'
death. I warned him that in his vulnerable state it might not be a good
idea to go into any pet stores. The rest is history. We made our first
trip back to the cottage with a new baby ferret. I truly think it is the
only way Bill could go back into that cottage. It was just too unbearable
to go without some kind of buffer to ease the pain. There is nothing like
a new ferret all crazy and full of love to help you heal. We welcome to
our house this bundle of joy. Meeka is happy to have the company and I
feel my spirit rejuvenated. I know Ferris' spirit is close (specially at
the cottage) and when the house is quiet I can almost hear him snuffling
around and checking out the new arrival. I know he approves.

Lynn
