I thought that I was the only one with the babies thinking that the litterbox
was either a bed and/or a toy.

This has escalated this year since we started using the wood pellets as
litter. I love the wood pellets, the absorb the liquid and the order and the
pieces are easy to sweep up. But dog gone it, do the kids like to play in
it!

This problem has been really bad with the kits. We generally start mom and
the babies in a small cage, when the babies get to be around 3.5 to 4 weeks
old and are crawling well, we move them to a larger cage. Since they still
don't have their eyes open we put boxes in every corner. As they chose which
corner they want to use for the bathroom, we remove the extra boxes, giving
them some extra room.

We have not been able to leave less then two boxes will any litter of kits
this year. They adopt one box as their bed and play pen and use the other
for its intended use. If we leave only one box in the cage, they use it as a
bed and poop in the corner! (What priorities!)

I was really worried about Xanth, one of our jills, she started using a box
for a bed and was nursing in it. This when she was still in her small cage
and was using the box for its intended use! I was sure she was going to get
mastitis. Lucky for all of us, she didn't, and her kits will be six weeks
old Sunday. (And they are sooo cute, 8 chocolate silver mitts, 3 boys and 5
girls!!)
