Within the next month or so I have to travel from New York to Houston with my
three ferrets by Airplane, and I'm concerned about how best to do this.

I read an article about flying-with-ferrets in a recent issue of Ferret
Digest (distributed by the Legion of Superferrets) and was pleased to read
that USAir allowed ferrets in the cabin. However, when I called them to
inquire they said that they were NOT allowed in the cabin -- only dogs, cats
and birds were allowed. So first of all, does anyone on the list know
anything about getting your ferrets into the cabin with you (legally) on any
airline?

Also, what is the real story about using air cargo -- why is it so bad? I
was thinking that if I had to use air freight I could put the three of them
in a medium-sized dog carrier with water, food, and a litter pan (I could
also leave from Laguardia which would be way more convenient than Newark).
It seems to me that this would be quite a bit better than being stuffed into
a cat carrier with no water/food/litter. However, most ferret lovers seem to
think that air freight is just a fate worse than death. Cuold it really be
that bad? Surely a certain number of people in the ferret world must travel
on airlines with their ferrets, and presumably these folks run up against the
same kind of problems -- what do they do?

Any help is welcome

Sam
