You put it very well- the occasional CRUMB of chocolate won't hurt a ferret.
I too, have had my share of calls about dogs who eat a pound or more of
chocolate - but I've never seen a real case of toxicity, although it is
widely reported.
 
Now if anyon goes out and feeds their ferret a box of Reeses or a whole
Whitman's sampler - I will NOT be held responsible.  A tiny bit - OK, two
pounds - BAD.  :)
