Ferrets, like cats, are carnivores.  Ferrets love to chase and catch
anything that moves.  If the bird is in a cage that the ferret can not
access or upset, then the bird is safe as long as it STAYS in the cage.
Ferrets can catch a bird when it lands on their surface, and will kill
it, just because they play rough and birds are sensitive.
 
BTW, if you use Silverstone or teflon for cooking, DON'T with a bird.  When
the non-stick surface heats up, it sends out fumes that kill birds.
