Ants hate peppermint .. try some peppermint essential oil to keep them away
(or peppermint plants planted around your house, etc.)  There's also a
rather inexpensive liquid called "Peppermint Spirits" that you can buy at
your drug store .. about $3 for maybe 4 or 5 ounces?  It's 14 or 15%
peppermint oil (the rest is alcohol), and is designed to be added to kids'
medicines to make them taste better.  (So, it's safe if taken internally in
reasonably small quantities).  Smells like peppermint candy, and it'll make
your house smell good AND keep ants away wherever you apply it!
