My family has 16 ferrets and are ready to take in more if neccessary. We
started with just one kit. Kizra was adorable and loved to play and when
we were given the opportunity to adopt 2 boys that had been together all
their life, we just couldn't refuse. One ferret is fun, multiple ferrets
are a blast! Unfortunately, Kirza passed away from congential kidney
disease within 3 weeks of bringing her home.

I was amazed at how quickly and how strongly each of my family members had
bonded with her. As someone who has had many many pets over the years, I
can truefully say I have never been so attached to any animal as much as I
have been ferrets. Over the past 2 years, we have gradually added to our
family by taking in unwanted pets and fell in love with a few pet shop
ferrets. Besides the ferrets, we also have 3 cats (one that is totally
convinced she's a ferret!), 3 snakes, a pair of rats and hamsters, and a
bunch of mice.

Are we missing something in our life? Well, I could certainly use more
time, money, and hands, but I feel I have a very full and happy life. I
felt this way before my family grew so large, also, but animals are special
creatures the Creator gave us and as pets, are very soothing after a hard
day at work. No matter what, they will listen to me, and make me smile and
laugh even after the roughest days. It is also very rewarding to watch
them grow and develop, and to have them fall asleep in your arms.

One very important thing about having pets, no matter what kind or how
many, is that you must evaulate what you can afford in both time and money--
and know where to draw the line. Yes, it can be expensive. I spend about
$100 a month on food alone for the ferrets, vets bills are outrageous, not
to mention the cost of litter, cages, etc. My husband and I are far from
rich, but we made the decision that our animals are just as important as
our human child is and are willing to make sacrafices to keep them happy
and healthy.
