Here's what my hubby has to say:

Funny, I remember a while ago the DF&G said it couldnt' legalize ferrets
because that was beyond its authority. Now they're just coming up with
other reasons now that their authority has been established.

Let's see other examples of spending:
http://www.capitolalert.com/news/old/capalert02_20010727.html

"$300,000 in the budget to purchase the Fair Oaks Bluffs for preservation."
let those who want it preserved find the money

"$1.5 million for the Elk Grove Senior Center" Seniors, start paying.

"$500,000 to the state Arts Council for a museum grant to the Italian
Cultural Society of Sacramento" The Italians should be paying for this,
right?

Also, http://www.capitolalert.com/news/old/capalert02_20000604.html

With this item "$5.3 billion transportation program ... A freeway
interchange to serve a casino owned by a politically influential Indian
tribe."

Ferret owners in CA are woefully misspending their money. The ONLY way I
can see is to become a major donator to the campaigns of the crimi- er,
politicians. There are 500,000 ferrets in CA, give $5 a piece, making
2.5M, which should buy enough politicians to make it happen. Sheesh,
with that, the state would probably even pay for the shedding study.
