Krista, you mention that your ferret began the bouts of staring off into
space after starting a raw diet.  If you look in the FHL Archives you
will find several examples of ferrets who had to have starch added to
their diets.  It is not common, but some with insulinoma simply did not
do well on the regular high protein approach so those few developed
symptoms of insulinoma and lowered blood sugar on high protein diets
but not regular diets.  There was also at least one who did not have
insulinoma who did this (but there wasn't later follow-up for to say if
they actually were starting insulinoma).  It is not usual, but it can
happen so should be among your considerations when discussing his case
with your treating vet.  Diet is not one-size-fits-all.
