Well, i've made a few calls and the good news is, according to Burlington
Animal Control, Ferrets ARE legal in the city of Burlington. However, the
bad news is, they definitely are ILLEGAL in the city of London and,
apparently, since i do not live there, there is nothing i can do about it.

i spoke to a woman at the Animal Care & Control Centre (685-1330) and she
does not know why they are banned, but they are and that if someone wanted
to go about changing that fact they would have to contact their Councilman.
If you do not know who your councilman is...you can call City Hall and they
will tell you.

i explained to her that i was calling from Hamilton, Ont. (where ferrets
are Legal..."Ya. Of course they are"--Animal Control Officer) on behalf of
some people in London who wanted to know what to do, but were afraid to
call.

She said that, unfortunately, no councilman is going to listen to me...since
i don't even live there...and that if these people don't care enough to call
and ask for a change, nothing WILL change. Mind you, those were her words
and not mine. i understand that those of you who live in London (and
Windsor) are worried about getting your fuzzies taken away, but i really
don't think that will happen. And, you can always call in and ask for the
by-law to be changed without admitting that YOU have a fuzzy, or even
telling them where you live.

i STRONGLY encourage those of you who live in London and Windsor to make
these calls and ask your friends and family to call in as well. i can send
you some pamphlets that i am making up about ferrets if you would like them
(and your councilman asks for such a thing). i find it very frustrating
that i can't do more and i almost wish i DID live there so that i could.
Please folks, don't let your fear keep your ferrets illegal!!! i really
don't think it encourages or helps the public (and Vet's) to understand
ferrets, or their (medical) needs if they are still listed as illegal
Anywhere!!

If there is ANYTHING that i CAN do, please let me know and i would really
appreciate hearing back from those of you who are in these cities...

Thanks

President of SOFA,
and Mom to Molly, Leo, and Maggie (step-mom to Oedie, and Beckett)!!
