This is my first post.  I have two wonderful ferrets and am wondering about
the care my sick ferret (Abby) may recieve.  The vet thinks she has
insulinoma.  She isn't eating much of her food and we started force feeding
her Duck Soup yesterday.  The only foods she will take willingly are
marshmallows, maple syrup, ferret treat from the vet, and apples.  I read
it's not good to give her the sugary stuff because it can make the
insulinoma worse so, I'm trying to limit it.  She is almost 5 yrs.  old.
She is also acting lethargic but, still has periods of being curious and
active.  Her blood sugar was in the 50's.  The vet wants to take her glucose
reading again tomorrow after we've tried to get food down her.  We live in a
city where ferrets are illegal and I don't have contact with any other
ferret owners here.  So the big question is: What is the absolute, most
current treatment for insulinoma?  Is there anything that works best?  I
have some reservations about my vet and want to get Abby the best treatment
I can.
