If it is actually "uncontrollable bleeding" from the vena cava then
you are going to ligate the vena cava.  If the defect is repairable
then suturing the vena cava (6-0 to 10-0 CV silk, or nylon, or prolene
sutures) to repair the damage is the best option.
 
As for things that can be used to help form blood clots gelfoam and/or
surgicel can be used.  For small defects direct pressure or topically
apply a drop or 2 of epi to stop the bleeding.  I have also tried
Hemablock, but I did not like it.
 
My other suggestion would be to have vascular clamps, so you can occlude
the vena cava as you remove the right gland and repair the vena cava if
necessary.
