It's not a good idea to spank ferrets for inappropriate behavior. They
are tiny little animals, and one can possible do internal damage - their
organs are very small and it doesn't take much of a wollop to hurt them.
 
I scruff mine, tweek their nose, and shout "NO!" very loud.  This seems
to work for me.
