If wood of any kind, to be burned, contains arsenic, you would be gravely
ill shortly after breathing the smoke.  So, what do *you* think?  Your
friend is very wrong.
 
Wood stove pellets do NOT contain anything harmful for anyone!  I use
them as ferret litter...$2.80 per 40 pound bag is affordable!  <GRIN>
 
I usually buy a pallet (2000 pounds, 50 bags) at a time and that lasts me
several years.  When I do that, I usually save another 50 cents or so a
bag.
