Cat allergies and Ferret allergies

I am highly allergic to cats.  If I am in an enclosed area with a cat for
over an hour my eyes start itching.  I found out when I housed a stray
kitten over a winter up north.  Prolonged exposure to a cat, my eyelids
will swell up.
 
I am here at home for almost 10 -12 hours continuously with my 8 ferrets
and do not have any kind of a reaction at all.  I am not taking any allergy
medications either nor do I keep any in the house.
