Ok, I just got home from our local ferret shelter doing what I always
do on Thursdays... clean litter boxes, change bedding, refill food and
water and of course take time to hold each and everyone of them when
I take them from their cages and transfer to another while I clean
theirs. I take the time and hold each one of them and tell them how
special they are and that special person is out there somewhere just
waiting to come and take them to their forever home. Some of them don't
believe me though because they said they have been at the shelter for a
long time and no one ever comes to see them. I keep telling them their
time will come and to be patient. They don't really mind the shelter
since they are well taken care of but all they really want is that
special person who will hold and play with them and always be there
for them.

Each one of them asked me to tell people that the shelter has a lot of
nice ferrets there....old and young ones, sick and well ones, scared
and friendly ones, calm and frisky ones, single ones and some with a
bonded cagemate. All they ever want is to belong and have a special
bond with that special person. These ferrets are pretty smart to talk
me into spreading the word for them. LOL.... They said someone has to
do it since people sometimes forget about the four legged fuzzy ones.
Well, they convinced me so here I am asking if anyone or knows of
anyone who want a ferret to visit the ferret shelter. I will add on my
own that it is not wise to get a ferret or any pet as a Christmas gift
for someone especially a child unless they intend on taking care of the
pet if the child loses interest and the ferrets at the shelter do agree
since some of them are ferrets who came back for various reasons once
they were adopted out. No fault of their own mind you.

Ok, I spread the word for them and that is all I can do. I leave there
wishing I can take them ALL but I am not rich enough to do that (but
I have taken at times some of the old and sick ones to let them spend
the rest of their time left in a forever home) if they are adopted or
fostered out one at a time they will ALL have their special homes in
time. They swore to me they would all be good and potty in the box and
be on their best behavior. I highly doubt this is true because if it
is I am going to do some trading at the shelter...

I hope I touched a few people who have it in them to adopt or foster
from their local ferret shelters and if you do you will have some
mighty happy ferrets.
