On Sat. 23 Aug. 1997 Jazmyn wrote to the list re: rabies in rats.  In this
article she gave some numbers relating to the number of ferrets in the
nation.  Forgive me for assuming that she was refering to the U.S.A.
However, unless the population of the "States" greatly exceeds 400 million
even the smallest number of 800 million ferrets would mean that every man,
woman and child would have two ferts.  Kinda doubt it unless of course these
numbers can be backed up with proof.
