About a month ago I mailed in requesting information on Lymphosarcoma
in ferrets. Our male, 4-yr. old ferret, Greyson, was diagnosed with
LSA and after having a tumor removed from his neck, began chemotherapy
treatments to send it into remission.

Well, Greyson has responded well to the chemotherapy drugs and his white
blood cell count is now back to normal. However, last week he started to
show signs of a stomach infection, so we took him to the vet school clinic
here at Miss. State Univ. On Wednesday of last week, he was diagnosed
with Proliferative Colitis and was prescribed Chloramphenicol (50 mg
twice a day). Since then he has gotten worse, he hasn't been eating
very much or drinking either, so we started force feeding him the
'duck soup' (with Ensure Plus). Every couple of minutes he gets up to
strain to take a bowel movement, but nothing comes out. Today he started
to look a little weak and tired.

This afternoon (Sunday), we called the vet school, and our vet was very
unsure what to do next. The vet said that no one here MSU is very
experienced with ferrets and any further treatment without consulting
someone more experienced would be guess work.

HELP! Does anyone have any experience with this disorder. If so, please
mail us directly at [log in to unmask] or call us at 601-325-4528.
Thanks,
Dona and Stephen Horton
