Hi everyone,

I've been lurking on this list for a few months now. My husband and I
adopted two wonderful female sables in March, Laverne and Shirley (and they
do live up to their names). We both wanted to have a pet but he doesn't
like cats and we both teach so we didn't have time to spend on the needs of
a dog. We were visiting my parents one weekend and I had to stop at a
drugstore... well next door was a pet shop. We decided to go in just to
look around at the critters... they had several ferrets, albinos and
sables. We watched them for a while. The next day while driving home, all
4 hours of it, all we talked about was ferrets. We did some research on
the internet to get some information, we called some local pet shops, we
found some more info... to make a long story short, we found these two
wonderful year old girls. The pet shop owner did not want to separate them
because they were together since birth. We adopted the both of them....
or they adopted us... it is hard to tell.

It is amazing how much they have changed our lives. We both look forward
to waking them up each morning before we go to work and play with them...
and again when we get home. They are the greatest pet I have ever had!!

Now for my questions, thank you for being patient throughout my story.

1. Shirley is a lot smaller than Laverne. She is 1.5 pounds while Laverne
is 2+ and growing. I worry about Shirley's size because she is so bony.
She eats well, has lots of energy, she is a raisin hound whenever I am at
the computer.... She is a bit reclusive... she runs from noises, resists
being held (but we're working on that), doesn't seem to want to play with
us too much. Not like Laverne who seeks us out to play. Am I just being
a worried mom? Could there be something physically wrong with her? I am
so new to having ferrets that I don't know what is normal and what to look
for.

2. Is there any shelters in Northern NY? Albany area and up? We are
talking about adopted two males, Lenny and Squiggy to complete our Sit-com
family.

Best wishes to all fuzzies and the humans they own,

Korri & Dean
