A Litter Box of Wishes

If I had a litter box of wishes,
I know exactly what I'd do,
I'd use a bunch for our ferrets,
And a few for me and you.

I'd wish health for the sick and the dying,
happiness for those who know pain.
Love, trust and understanding are never
given in vain.

This one is a bit vindictive,
But I've seen far too many hurt,
Guilt for all the abusers,
Let them feel lower than dirt.

I'd wish ignorance be replaced with learning,
Hatred replaced with trust,
Learning can be started,
But it has to be started by us.

I'd wish apathy turn to caring,
Myths and fallacies replaced with truth.
I wouldn't forget the all old ones,
I would wish for them a fountain of youth.

I'd wish homes for the homeless,
Comfort and joy,
Dooking and war dancing,
And lots of fun toys.

I'd wish shelters to be empty,
And in this I'd hope you'd agree,
Ferrets in happy homes,
should be reality.

I've made my wishes for ferrets,
Now as far as I can see,
The only ones left I have,
Are those for you and me.

As I made my wishes,
I began to realize,
Not only are they for the ferrets,
But for us, the human guys.

Humans are supposed to be superior,
But in that statement I do not trust,
For if we were superior,
The world wouldn't be turning to rust.

Remember, if humans were superior to animals, we'd take
better care of the world, and each other. Winnie the Pooh
said that.
