I've been away from the FML for a couple of months (due to work) and I sure
did miss all of you!

Cyndi and Halley (glad you're feeling better).....Bandit had his shots a
week and a half ago and had the exact same reaction. I was so glad that I
knew to stay in the vets office afterward! He started to close his eyes,
then heaving with vomiting and loss of bladder and bowels. I was holding
him and will never forget the horror of being so very afraid for his life.
The vet was great and stabalized his condition with ephinephrine (sp?),
steriods, and oxygen. She kept him for an hour and half more to make sure
he was going to be all right. He is fine now, and I hope that there will
not be any lasting effects or consequences. I feel that it was my fault,
because I should have known to separate his injections. He had Galaxy
(Fervac is backordered) and Imrab. Somehow, the warnings didn't get through
to my psyche....All of you other ferret owners out there: don't think it
won't happen to your ferret. TAKE NO CHANCES! You don't want to feel as
badly as I do, almost losing the baby closest to your heart and putting him
through so much!

I have not found a vet I was comfortable with in Utah until now. Ferrets
are growing in popularity here, but many vets still don't see many ferrets
and aren't well educated on their treatments. This was my first time to see
Dr. Kris Muscari at the Utah Valley Veterinary Hospital (she joined the
staff just about 6 months ago). Dr. Kris was knowledgable on vacinnations,
adrenal problems, etc. She also talked about her membership on AOL to a
special veterinary forum! I gave her the regular FAQ and medical FAQ and
she was willing to take it and read it. Her whole attitude was one of love
for ferrets and learning more about their care!!! She is even going to get
one when her son gets older!

Dr. Williams, Dr. Weiss, Dr. Dutton....if any of you participate in this AOL
forum, please encourage her to join the FML (if she hasn't already) and also
give her a pat on the back--she really was great. I mentioned your names to
her, but she said she only knew people by their forum ids. So, please
introduce yourselves (if you feel comfortable doing that, that is). Sorry,
I just couldn't stop myself from raving about the wonderful, knowledgeable
vets that contribute so unselfishly to the FML. You are the best!!!

Leslie, Bandit, and Phantom.
