Dear fellow FML'ers,

As some of you may know, I was the director of the Pennsylvania Ferret
Rescue Association's Montgomery County branch. As of May 31st, I have
retired from sheltering and my main focus will be now on being just Ferret
Mom. I will still be involved with sheltering in many ways, but I won't
have a shelter in my home any longer. After nearly eight years of
sheltering, it was a very hard decision to come to, but I know that for
me, and my personal ferrets, it was the right thing to do. For an
official statement, and a personal message from me about this, see the
PFRA's website or go to this page:
http://www.ferretrescue.com/montco/montco.htm.

But the reason that I'm writing this is twofold: one, to put a plea out
for the adoptable ferrets that I still have in my care. When I closed, I
stopped taking in new surrenders, but I still have ferrets that need good
homes. I'm having a very tough time finding homes for these ferrets, some
have been here for a very long time just waiting for the right person to
come along.

The reason these ferrets are so hard to find homes for is because none of
them will get along with other ferrets. Most of the people who contact me
already have ferrets and want a new playmate, and aren't willing to start
a new rungroup. I understand this - truly I do. But I'm not sure where
else to turn, these ferrets were passed over time and time again, and it
breaks my heart.

I won't take up too much space with descriptions of these sweethearts, only
to say that I have one single female, one pair of boys, a trio (two males,
one female), and a group of four that I will split into two pairs if
necessary. The trio must stay as a trio, and the pair of boys must stay
together. All of these ferrets range in age from 2-5 and are in good
health. I have been unsuccessful in integrating them with any other ferret
groups, and while I won't say that it's impossible, I'd say don't expect
that they would ever get along with other ferrets. I will be happy to give
more specific descriptions of these sweeties to anyone who is seriously
able to provide a home that would accomodate another runtime or if anyone
on this list doesn't already have ferrets. These are darlings, absolute
sweeties, that had rough times that landed them here, and I want them to
finally have a home to call their own.

If you are in Pennsylvania or in a reasonable distance from the
Philadelphia area (an hour west of Philly), and think that you might
have the right home for any of these guys, please e-mail me at
[log in to unmask] I won't ship them, please don't ask.

The other reason for this message is to announce a new shelter in
Pennsylvania that opened in sync with my shelter closing. Two of my club
members, Brian and Shannon Hilliard, opened a new shelter to take the place
of mine closing. It is called The Country Ferret Farmhouse and it is
located just north of Allentown, PA. Sharon Baer, who was my co-director
with the PFRA, will also be working with The Country Ferret Farmhouse. For
more information on this shelter anyone can e-mail me, or the directors

A website will be up soon with more information about this shelter, and I
will announce that as soon as it's ready.

Take care, everyone, and love your ferrets to the fullest.
They deserve it!

Kym
