For quite a while now, there has been discussion on the FML about forming a
new national organization. I think what we really need right now, is an
organization to regulate breeders. Far too often, I have seen breeders who
do not know what they're doing, let alone know how to give general ferret
care. We need some type of national organization to go around inspecting
breeders, and maybe even certifying them as ferret breeders. Unfortunately,
in Maine, the animal welfare system is appalling, in that that they will not
do a thing, unless an animal doesn't have food or water. They do not care
if an animal is always in a cage, doesn't get any light, or the love,
attention, and care that it needs or if there is inbreeding going on. If
there's anything we need to do, it's to put bad breeders out of business.
