About a week ago Oscar lost his appetite and stopped eating and drinking.
We started hand feeding him and when things didn't clear up after a day or
two, off to the vet. The vet said everything felt normal, that there was a
lot of gas in the intestinal tract (not surprising). We got sulphur-based
anti-biotic and a recommendation for a little bit of pepto bismo. Now
several days later things remain pretty much the same, except he now seems
to want his treats again (the first sign of trouble was when he refused a
treat - this guy LIVES for treats). No fever, color looks fine but he is
losing a little weight. His energy level has stayed fairly close to normal.
The only other noticeable change is that he "chews" a lot right after being
force fed and off and on for quite a while. He acts like he wants to eat on
his own and has tried to several times. Oscar is six years old. Teeth and
gums appear normal (to me).

When one finds himself in a hole of his own making, it is a good
time to examine the quality of workmanship.
