My favorite way to remove ticks is a good-sized glob of petroleum jelly.
Cover the tick COMPLETELY (and probably 1/2 your pet too<G>) and wait about
5 min.  Ticks are oxygen breathers, and they will back out, trying to get
air.  No worry about not getting the head and jaws that way.  Just use paper
towel to remove the tick and as much of the mess as you can.  This works
well on dogs; Monster hasn't managed to acquire one ... yet.
 
Anyone know if Petroleum jelly is bad for ferrets internally?  This might be
a problem.  Only other one is that you're likely to have the stuff all over
your house pretty quick!<G>
