I had a similar experience when our first ferret, Bandit went blind
in later years. He would pause and slowly swing his head from side
to side, a "sweeping motion", to home in on voices or activity, then
confidently stroll over to where the action was. Only twice did I catch
him whack his head into something.

He danced and dooked, only bouncing off furniture a bit less that when
he could see.

Of course he always used his ferret telepathy to communicate with the
others, or to send me to the kitchen for treats. :)
