From the photo of Joey's neck it looks like it might be an ox warble.
I've had cats and dogs with them. The vet can remove it or wait long
enough and the grub will come out. Ugly! For those who don't know what
an ox warble is, you can look it up. It is a kind of fly that attacks
cattle and sometimes other animals. The grub lives in the skin. That
is a lot for little Joey.
