That statement does NOT mean that these sources replace hands on care by
a knowledgeable vet, but they can supplement care and they can offer a
way for vets to learn newer approaches or new information. NOTHING and
NO ONE replaces the wisdom and knowledge of a trained veterinary doctor
who knows your individuals and their specific health needs,
counter-indications, precautions, etc.

It is essential for the well-being of the ferrets and to avoid being
abusive to get regular veterinary care, expert assessment and advice
from your vet when you are considering a large change in care, etc.

Also, DO know where the nearest emergency services are in case you need
those at some point and find out how veterinary coverage is supplied when
your vet is away.

BTW, resources like the ones above and the excellent veterinary texts,
tapes, DVDs on ferrets out there (or soon to be released) are very
helpful for even vets who aren't used to ferrets, and will help your
vet get consultations with specialists when those are needed.
