I just went thru the same thing with my male silver, Mickey. About 3 or
4 weeks ago, I noticed his tail fur was thinning near the tip, and also
noticed the tiny black dots on his skin. This seems to be a summer
related problem with some ferrets. The black dots might be referred to
as an acne of a sort.
I gave Mickey frequent baths, 1 or 2 a week, and scrubbed his tail
especially good. At each bathing, I lathered and scrubbed his tail (w/ my
hands) about 2 or three times. Now the condition seems to have cleared up
and his tail fur is back to normal. I use Ferretsheen, by 8-in-1
Products. It is available at most pet stores. There may be a better
shampoo out there that I'm not aware of, but this one seems to work well.
