I think the surgery was to remove her anal glands.  Marshall Farms does
this prior to shipping their ferrets to the pet stores, and it is done at
a very young age.  They also spay or neuter the kits prior to shipping
them.

I believe it's the best food on the market today.  It's high in protein
and low in carbs.  I mix it with a couple of other brands of food that
aren't quite as expensive.  Most agree that a mix of foods is best in the
event that a food becomes unavailable.  I mix the Natural Gold with Path
Valley Farm Ferret Food.  Premium Edge Kitten is exactly the same and a
lot cheaper.  I get it at a feed store for $5.50 for a four pound bag.
I also use Mazuri ferret food in my mix.  This way they get a variety of
foods.
