Hmmmm .. not to criticize you, but I wonder if this is really healthy?  I'm
not sure what the chemical composition of ashes is, but I know nicotine is
pretty poisonous, and tobacco steeped in water is used as an insecticide in
some areas.
 
If it were my ferret, I'd probably stop the practice just because I'd be
afraid that he might injest the ashes as he washes himself, and I don't
know what's in ashes. :-<   Hey ..  how about an ashtray with a bit of
potting soil in it, instead? :->
