This morning we helped Precious cross to "The Rainbow Bridge." She was 4+
MF sable that we rescued last December with her cagemate Scarlett. Since
May she put on a valient battle against pancreatic cancer. She had her bad
days, but many more good days. She took her meds and ate her food every
six hours with no complaint. We took her to work each and every day to
watch her and to be with her, and played in the pressroom where more than
once escaped from her area. Wednesday, I had her out while I did my
printing most of the day. She was on all the table tops and was all over
the place, finally getting into a business card file box and going to
sleep. A standoff ferret at first, she became a lap ferret.

She will be missed by us, Scarlett and all the wonderful friends she made
that stopped by the print shop and would spend a minute with her. Scarlett
said her goodbys this morning and we moved her into a cage with Drifter, a
single ferret we rescued this summer. We have been working on this new
pair awhile. They are sleeping together as I type.

In memory of Precious, Caroline, Kodo, and the no name ferrets I have
reprinted the ferret Rainbow Bridge I submitted to issue 2008. I am
framing a copy to put in the press room to remind me of Precious. I
cleaned up the ferret area in the pressroom and brought it all home. It
is going to be strange on Monday not to have a pair of ferrets to talk to
as I work. They are such great listeners!

The Rainbow Bridge

There are meadows and hills for all of the ferrets, to run and play
together. Plenty of food, water, sunshine to make our ferrets warm and
comfortable. All of the ill ferrets are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt are made whole again, just as we remembered them. The
ferrets are happy and content, except for one thing, they each miss someone
very special who was left behind. They run and play together, but the
day will always come when one will stop and look into the distance. The
ferret's eyes become bright and intent, the eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly, the ferret breaks from the group, flying over the green grass,
faster and faster. The special friend's time has come, and the two cling
together in their joyous reunion, never to part again. They kiss each
other, as they walk together, across the RainbowBridge. Together at
last . . . . to an eternity together in Heaven.
