There was also a chicken recall recently (salmonella if I recollect
correctly) and something like 2 or 3 beef recalls recently, too, as
well as some dioxin contaminated pork so check the FDA and USDA recall
sites. I remember that at least one of the beef ones was for a shiga
toxin producing E. coli, and while cooked is safer than raw for that it
is still too unsafe to eat because too much of the toxin remains. It's
been months since I have had time to put up alerts on a regular basis.

This is a dog product but I seem to recall that someone whose ferret
has IBD with many food allergies has been using it and supplementing
taurine:

>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- June 18, 2010 - Natural Balance Pet Foods,
>Inc., of Pacoima, CA, announces a voluntary recall of Natural Balance
>Sweet Potato & Chicken Dry Dog Food with the "Best By" date of June
>17, 2011, in 5-lb. and 28-lb. bags because it has the potential to be
>contaminated with Salmonella.

More at the website.

Many ferrets have better resistance to salmonella than humans, BUT when
they get it it's hard as heck to treat and can become very serious.

It pays to sign up for recall alerts from:
http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/default.htm

That not only helps ferrets, but also humans, especially those who are
immune compromised for any reason.
