I am writting in response to yesterdays question about the possibility of
some ferrets craving salt and even liking to lick salt blocks. I have
that same question. One of my five does the licking on the inside of the
elbows and knees and sometimes goes to nip. My friend, a fellow fmler has
a male rescue (MF, neutered of course) who does this VERY escessively...
quite a problem actually. He has lessened this activity, but guess what
he's turned to? URINE. He has begun to lick urine. Urine is salty is it
not? Is this why he is beginning to do this or is this due to a different
reason? I've heard of uspayed hobs doing this in a severe rut....but
never with a spayed male (especially a male that was spayed so young).

So first I would like to know the salt thing... do some ferrets crave it
and is it a good or bad idea to offer a salt block?

Second what is everyone's take on a neutered male lapping up his own urine
(and only his own)?
