Merry Meet

I wanted to let everyone know who told me not to get my hopes up when
they contacted me out of the blue and asked if they could do a segment
on my ferret after I entered a contest through The Parade section in
the paper last year. You were right. I jumped through every hoop
imaginable. I'm disabled now due to a workers comp injury to my spine
and back and I have bad knees and still I managed to borrow a camera to
get film shot the best I could, I took pictures. I did everything. I
swapped days off at work to come to Orlando. I had to pay to park and
wait around. It was not a good experience for Hughbie who was unhappy
that he was alone in the carrier and it was hot.

I admit she has a presence with animals, but she barely wanted to touch
him, they warned me she's slightly deaf and to speak clearly and loudly
and she claimed the he was a biter because he had nipped me as I tried to
loosen his harness. But he was in a strange place, and I guess I would
be cranky too if I had been stuck in a carrier all day. Except Hughbie
doesn't bite, he is not a biter. She claims that he said I deserved.
And then went on to say that Hughbie loves my husband best, something I
already knew. At the end they coach you as to what to say. She did not
say anything that was of interest at all. Including we noticed that
morning that one of his paws was swollen and I asked her about it and
she said that the ferret had no idea and that it wasn't hurting him.
That appeared to be the only part that was true.

We came home disappointed. But Husband stopped at one of my favorite
steakhouses, Hops and we brought Hughbie in with us and then after I had
to send my steak back 4 times, the meal ended up free and we put Hughbie
on the table and fed him some strawberry cheesecake which he loved.
Manager just laughed.

They finally send our stuff back and said there was no place in this
seasons shows to put HUghbie's behavior segment. Its not like I came to
them. They called me. I did not even get a copy of the video they took.
The only thing I can say that she does have a calming presence about her
because when she touched him, he curled up in a ball and went to sleep
and stayed like that the entire time. But Hughbie is very open to that
sort of thing as he is one of my totem animals, he will sometimes join
me in a circle on full moon nights.

But if you ever get a call... be weary.

Sincerely.,
Margaret H
