Merial makes two vaccines that are used in ferrets: Purevax (for
distemper) and Imrab (for rabies).  The Purevax is a newer vaccine and
tends to have fewer reactions than Fervac (which is definitely a
distemper and NOT a rabies vaccine).  Galaxy D was never approved for
use on ferrets (i.e. they didn't spend the money to do the testing).  So,
the vet tech definitely has some wrong information, but you'd be doing
your ferrets no harm to vaccinate them for distemper with the Merial.
 
I agree that you should talk to the vet because this vet tech is
definitely passing on bad information.
