Corn cob is not all that great for birds either.  Like you said, it gets
stinky.  It grows mold REALLY fast when wet.  One thing pet birds don't
need to be exposed to are excessive mold spores floating around.  And
it's probably not that great for other animals either, not to mention
people if you have allergies to mold and dust.
