Various subjects: (I'm very short of time these days,
so if y'all will excuse me for lumping a few together.

To Bob Nixon concerning estrogen levels: I don't think I gave a
level for estrogens, but I'll check into it. Dr. Karen Rosenthal told me
about a screeening test available at the University of Tennessee that has a
100% rate of prediction iwth no false positives. It sounds too good to be true,
but as soon as I can get ahold of her, I'll post the results. Currently,
the best test is available from CENVET at 1-800-4-CENVET, but it only predicts
in about 33% of cases. Unitl we have a good test, I still advocate doing the
surgery if the clinical signs are clear-cut....

To Kari in Mass. about intracardiac injections:

These type of injections are not inhumane if done quickly and effey, with only
one puncture. But it's awfully difficult. That is why I always give some
anesthesai first.

The problem is that in almost every pound where lehtal injection is used, it is
given in the heart in anything as small as a cat or smaller So, unfortunately I
don't think you could get far with the case that an IC injection is inhuman I
think there are better ways to do it, but it's done very commonly all over.

To Wes Breazale concerning normal ferret skin color:

Usually it's white, but if there is an ingrowth of small black fur on a sable
ferret, that skin will appear bluish. Probably not a big problem if you are
seeing it in a place where the hair is darkbrown.

Charlie Weiss, where are you???!!!

(Actually, I know where Charlie is. He is as busy as me...he came over
yesterday to help me take blood samples from some ferrets that we are using in
the investigation of the Green diarrhea.....Thanks, Charlie).

To all the FML: Charlie and I will be at the show in Frederick this weekend.
So if you see two extremely handsome, distinguished gentlemen looking around
the Armory, it's probably not us.....

But we'll be there - walk up and introduce yourselves...

Bruce Williams, back on line at veptath.afip.mil

[Moderator's note: I won't be able to make the show myself. So that's
one less chance to not meet a handsome distinguished gentleman. I do
plan on being at the HSUS show in March though, if anyone cares! BIG]
